Linda Deane comes to the Scontras Labor Center after many years working to improve the lives of Maine’s working class. A career paper mill worker, Linda was one of the original strikers in the and spent several decades working at the Rumford Paper Mill.
Linda served in various roles with the United Steelworkers and is currently the President of the Western Maine Labor Council. She recently spearheaded the drive to buy the old Local 14 Union Hall and create the “Local 14 Solidarity Center” which empowers workers and helps them make history and through education across Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties.
Linda is also a singer and has a keen interest in the role of the arts in the labor movement. Linda’s expert organizational skills and her history in Maine’s labor movement make her a perfect fit for the Scontras Labor Center.
