The Special Education Department at the 杏吧传媒, in collaboration with the International Dyslexia Association — Northern New England Alliance (IDA-NNEA) and , are pleased to announce a private film screening of the documentary . Recent data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) indicates that fewer than 35% of students in grades 4 and 8 read proficiently. We hope that by hosting the The Truth About Reading film premiere, we will bring together stakeholders across Maine in order to share their sense of urgency around the growing literacy crisis. The Truth About Reading sheds light on how not learning to read leads to lifelong challenges. The screening will be held on the 杏吧传媒 Portland campus in Hannaford Hall. The event begins at 6pm, with a reception prior to the screening, and a panel discussion immediately following the film. The film features the stories of David Chalk and John Corcoran, two men who didn鈥檛 learn to read until adulthood. David and John are expected to join the panel discussion via Zoom.
鈥淔rom Emmy-Award winning director Nick Nanton comes a new eye-opening documentary film, The Truth About Reading. Literacy experts from across America, including Emily Hanford of 鈥淪old a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went so Wrong鈥� and Lacey Robinson of UnboundED, emphasize the seriousness of the illiteracy crisis and share how the implementation of science and evidence -based practices can transform lives and ensure that every child learns how to read.鈥�
