Stay tuned for information on HTY 394: Journey through the Civil War and Reconstruction offered by Professors Ashley Towle and Adam Schmitt. This course is expected to include travel to: Gettysburg, PA; Washington, DC; Richmond, VA; Harper’s Ferry, WV.

In this course students will be able to 

  • identify and describe the significance of important events, individuals, and ideas from the Civil War and Reconstruction era
  • analyze different narratives of the Civil War and Reconstruction and their impact on understanding the time period
  • explain how the historical memory of the Civil War has been shaped and used by different groups of people for their own agendas
  •  interpret historical landscapes and explain how they are products of historical memory.

Scholarships

Limited scholarships are available to USM matriculated degree candidates to help fund your participation in a USM faculty led short term travel program. Each scholarship requires the completion of an application which can be found below. Students should review the criteria for the scholarship to determine if they are eligible before applying. Scholarship amounts range from $200-$500.
