The Dr. Charles A. Scontras Center for Labor and Community Education at the 杏吧传媒 provides educational opportunities to union members, students, and workers across Maine so they can participate fully in their workplaces, communities, and our democracy.
Dr. Charles A. Scontras, 鈥淐harlie鈥� to his friends, was Maine鈥檚 foremost labor historian, educator, author, and tireless advocate for the state’s working people. Charlie taught at the University of Maine for thirty-six years with positions in the modern society, history, and political science departments and is the author of more than a dozen books on Maine鈥檚 labor history. Since Charlie passed away in 2021 his friends, family, colleagues, and students across the state have sought to continue his legacy. Our Center is named in his honor and is part of this legacy.

Parking is free on the Lewiston campus. Visitors may park in the main parking lot.
